Artist’s Statement
I never set out to become an artist—it felt as though art found me. In 2023, I discovered a love for creating still life arrangements and photographing them. What I didn’t realise at the time was that, subconsciously, my creations were helping me process years of trauma. Much of this stemmed from caring for my teenage child as they navigated mental health challenges.
My work is inspired by nature’s underdogs: weeds, moss, soil, and the root systems that support life beneath our feet. I am drawn to what is resilient, overlooked, and persistent rather than what is bright, showy or perfect.
Spending time in nature has shaped my wellbeing and my way of seeing. It has taught me about patience, recovery, and renewal, and about the importance of slowing down and paying attention to nature.
Through sculpture and photography, I use natural elements gathered from wild places or my Scottish garden to create still life works that reflect these experiences.
My practice is rooted in the belief that nature supports us, mentally and physically, and that we carry a responsibility to protect and care for it in return.
Each work is an invitation to pause, to notice small details, and to recognise the strength found in fragility, endurance, and growth.
