Mother Nurture

Mother Nurture is a series of symbolic still life photographs inspired by the Dutch Masters. While traditional Dutch still life dealt with themes of wealth or mortality, this work reinterprets the genre to explore motherhood, trauma and hope.

The series was made after caring for my teenage child through years of mental health recovery. Creating these images began instinctively as a way for me to process the trauma I had encountered. A visual conversation examining resilience and hope.

This work also examines our relationship with the natural world. Care, whether for a loved one or for the environment, is shown as a restorative process. Spending time outdoors was central to my own recovery. Observing, collecting and spending time in nature gave me hope for the future.
