Plant Portraits 2025

I call this series Plant Portraits because I treat every specimen with the same care I would if capturing a human portrait. Most of these plants were grown and gathered from my own Scottish cottage garden, and my goal is not just to document them, but to capture their unique personality.

By removing all background distractions, I can focus entirely on the individual character of each plant. I am drawn to the way a thin, graceful stem can possess so much strength, or how a petal can be as fragile as tissue paper.

Whether it is the intricate skeleton of a dried leaf or the bold layers of a blooming Dahlia, I want to highlight the extraordinary details in these ordinary things. Just as you would with a portrait of a person, I hope these images show what makes each plant special.
